Why I Planned Gatsby's Funeral

Gatsby was a very special friend to me. I was extremely upset when I found out about his death. With all the parties he threw, and all the friends he supposedly had, I thought his funeral would have a full house. I had a rude awakening when I started to plan his funeral. NO ONE wanted to come. I was completely shocked! I thought for sure that all those people that were always at his parties would want to come to celebrate his wonderful life, but that never happened. I reached out to Mr. Wolfsheim several times, but he inevitably declined. He said he never got into business with people once they were dead. That was the end of his friendship with someone once they died. That was something that really threw me off because I thought he and Gatsby were very close. Daisy and Tom wouldn't dare to show their faces at the funeral. Tom practically arranged Gatsby's death. He would be happy rather than mournful. I was surprised when I couldn't even get Klipspringer to come. I mean come on, he practically lived in Gatsby's house and he doesn't even have the decency to pay his respects. I was beside myself, there was only one other person that I could try to find, Gatsby's father. I was able to send a message to him and he responded, saying to not have the funeral until he arrives. Little does he know, he'd be the only one at the funeral, besides myself of course. It was really interesting what Mr. Gatz had to say about his son. I never would have known that side of Gatsby if it weren't for his father. I guess that was the only real good thing that came out of Gatsby dying, learning the truth about the life that most people would never know.

What I Was Feeling When Tom Hit Myrtle

When Tom brought me to the city, I wasn't expecting the crazy time that I ended up having. He wanted me to meet his girl, Myrtle. I didn't really want to even meet her because this was the woman that Tom was cheating on my cousin with. Anyhow, I still ended up going with him. After we arrived in the city we went to the apartment that Tom and Myrtle shared. It was a nice place, but once I again I was shocked of this other life that Tom was living away from Daisy. The party had been going on for a while when Tom and Myrtle started fighting. They were starting to make a scene and I was embarrassed for them. Myrtle was getting upset because of Daisy. She wanted Tom to leave her and be with her instead. Myrtle was going around the entire apartment yelling Daisy's name. Tom got so angry when she wouldn't stop that he punched her right in the face. I was appalled! I couldn't believe what was happening right before my very own eyes. I knew Tom was a tough guy and kind of mean, but I never thought he would lay a hand on someone he loved. Myrtle started bleeding and I felt really bad for her. After that moment I lost a lot of respect for Tom, because I know that I would never treat a woman like that.

What I Was Thinking When I First Met Jordan Baker

The first time I met Jordan Baker was when I came to visit Daisy and Tom Buchanan in East Egg. She was a stranger to me. She looked interesting because she was completely motionless and her chin was raised a little as if she were balancing something on it which was quite likely to fall. I thought I interrupted her, so I felt like I needed to apologize. She was so beautiful. She was a slender, small breasted girl with an erect carriage which she accentuated by throwing her body backward at the shoulders like a young cadet. She had a very charming face with grey sun-strained eyes. I finally realized that I did know who she was, she was the professional golfer. She seemed like a very independent woman, unlike Daisy. Just don't tell her I said that... Anyways, Jordan intrigued me. I wanted to start getting to know her. I was ecstatic when I saw her at one of Gatsby's parties.  She was always so much fun, and I found myself always wanting to be around her.
